Whimotre Village

Growing up in the middle of nowhere but everyone knows your name is a feeling of “Ohana.” Lu’a Falls, “D” Track, Muscle Man River and the Creek are just some places you can find the typical child, teenager and adult. Surrounded by Dole Plantations’ Pineapple field’s sits “Whitmore Village” A home to many.

As a child Matsumoto’s (Motoy’s or Whitmore Store) was the landmark for us. Icee Bear would visit quite often and you’re able to get a free sample. For some reason, Matsumoto’s served a really good burger.

Driving up on Whitmore Ave you’re surrounded by pineapple fields, red dirt and California grass. At that time Kahi Kani did not exist but Single Man existed. The short cut to single man was through the Dole Plantation truck grounds. It’s like going through a forest and my friends and I would pretend that we were running away.

Single Man is the grounds where everyone and anyone who wants to gamble with cards, chicken fight and eat fresh filipino foods hung out at. This was a great place for me to manipulate my daddy in giving me money. He could never resist in front of his friends.

The pineapple fields are known to ride your BMX or dirt bikes. Thanks to friends and family, I learned how to ride a 125 dirt bike and a quad.

The creek is a hike down the mountain but worth it all. Clean warm waters you can spend the day there and just enjoy jumping off the cliff.

Lu’a Falls and Muscle Man are both known for the fresh crayfish it used to have.

How I miss the old Whitmore Village where everyone watches over your home and your family.
